The Roman emperor Diocletian (284-305 AD) observed in time the key problems with which the Roman Empire was confronted. Realizing that the situation of the Empire was very bad, he reorganized the State and created the tetrarchy, a new form of government, made of 2 Augustus

and their subordinates the 2 Caesars. This form of government along with other key economic and administrative reforms managed to give a stability to the Roman Empire and decisively contributed to the survival of the state for at least a few more decades.

Much of Diocletian’s administrative and economic reforms were to be continued by the reunifier of the Roman Empire, Constantine the Great.

This infographic presents the most important political, economic and administrative reforms initiated by Diocletian that contributed to the saving of the Roman Empire.
