The ‘smart’ tag is being applied to an increasing array of products and services. But what does ‘smart’ really mean? According to research by White Space, the ‘smart’ tag has gone from a technical device with advanced and intelligent capabilities to an everyday consumer staple.

Some companies are using the term as a marketing jargon to encourage more purchases, where smart equals better. However, not all devices and systems that are pre-fixed by “smart” are necessarily more advanced or “intelligent”.
