Did you know that stainless steel is made by combining two or more metals? It is to increase its strength or resistance to corrosion. Not all stainless steel is created equal; that is why it varies in price.
For years since it was created, there are now hundreds of different formulations for stainless steel. Out of the four leading families of stainless steel, Austenitic is the most popular since it is widely used. Breaking down this family of austenitic, we have three ASTM grades: 304, 316L, and 904L.
They are mentioned according to their strength and resistance to corrosion from lowest to highest. You can also differentiate them by appearance and use. Learn more about each of them in this infographic.
