For example, in 2012 motorcycles were about 26 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled and 5 times to be injured. Moreover, a motorcyclist not wearing a helmet is 40% more likely to die of a head injury than one who wears a helmet.
