Velveteen is made by the filling-pile method. In this method, the bare weave is used as a base and extra fillings are floated over four or five warps. After weaving is complete, the floats are cut and their ends are thoroughly brushed up to form a downy pile nearly one eighth inch long.

The back of the fabric is smooth and shows the fundamental weave. In addition, velveteen has a fuller body than velvet and that’s why it is not as easily draped as velvet.
